Better Days Ahead3/24/2020 Main Idea: We can have hope in the midst of darkness because God is faithfully making all things new. Revelation 21.5 (NASB): And He who sits on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." And he said, "Write, for these words are faithful and true." Devotion: Today’s verse is one that I have clung to in times of uncertainty and discouragement. Often, I pray to the one who “is making all things new,” for I know that there is great comfort in the reality that God will not leave this world as it is. We find hope and comfort because we know that God has promised better days. In fact, we are told that “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away” (Rev. 21.4). Imagine if you were in the Apostle John’s position when he wrote these things. John was in exile on the island of Patmos and Christians were being persecuted throughout the Roman Empire. And yet, in the midst of great difficulty, God told his people that He is making all things new and that He will reveal a “new heaven and a new earth” (Rev. 21.1a). When things get tough, may we be a people who look forward to the fulfilment of all that the Lord has promised. This life is not all there is—a better life in Christ has been promised.
